Our newest and most exclusive variety! The Red Prince apple was discovered in 1994 on the German/Holland border. A lone tree laden with big, beautiful red apples stood out in stark contrast to the green fruit hanging in the rest of the orchard. At the time of the discovery, they believed it was a gift from Mother Nature. Later the apple was traced back to a natural crossing between a Jonathan and a Golden Delicious! In 2001 Marius and Irma Botden began planting the first Red Prince trees in Thornbury, Ontario.
It has a well-rounded, slightly oblate shaped and distinct colouration. Venetian patches of red peek through a blanket of crimson—an eye-catching combination of two very beautiful, rich shades of red. Beneath the antioxidant-rich skin of the Red Prince apple lies dense, crisp and snappy flesh. The flavours of its parentage apples are evident, offering a snack that is refreshing, sweet and tangy. It’s great eaten fresh, in salads, baked, and paired with sharp cheddars and blue cheeses!
