John McIntosh discovered the McIntosh apple in 1811 on his farm in Dundela, Ontario. He found it a perfect snacking apple and it took off from there! The Southern Georgian Bay Apple Growing District produces a premium quality McIntosh apple. This home grown favourite sits high on our customers’ lists, year in and year out. ‘Macs’ are a medium sized apple with an irregular round shape, green with a characteristic large splash of red. The flesh is white and juicy with a taste that changes from mildly tart to sweet as the apples ripen in storage. The McIntosh is an excellent apple to eat fresh and highly recommended for baking in pies and making sauce.
