Honeycrisp apples were discovered by the University of Minnesota back in the 1960s, but did not make their debut in stores until 1991. The Honeycrisp apple is large, conical and pale green to yellow, with a red blush covering 50% to 90% of the apple. Thanks to the warm days and cool nights we enjoy in our northern microclimate, we achieve a robust blush on this apple in particular.

The Honeycrisp apple was once thought to have been the result of combining a Honeygold and a Macoun, but a team of researchers at the University of Minnesota has found that it is in fact a combination of a Keepsake apple and an unknown variety! The flesh of the Honeycrisp apple can be summed up in three words: SWEET, SNAPPY and JUICY! These apples are most commonly eaten fresh and in salads.
